Filmed In The East Midlands

The East Midlands is home to some of the most spectacular landscape in the UK.  It is therefore no surprise that various blockbusters have used the region for their scenic backdrop.

Follow in the footsteps of some of the biggest Hollywood stars of our time when you visit the East Midlands

2008's big screen 'bodice ripper', The Other Boleyn Girl, which stars leading Hollywood actors Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman, has scenes filmed at Dovedale, Castleton's Cave Dale, North Lees Hall and Haddon Hall – a fine example of a medieval manor house and an extremely popular location with film makers.
BBC TV's 2006 production of Jane Eyre was shot entirely on location in the Peak District and again featured Haddon Hall as Thornfield, Rochester's home, while Lyme Hall at Disley has been a favourite stop for set-jetters since Colin Firth's Mr Darcy emerged dripping from the lake in the BBC dramatisation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice!
Shooting for Pride and Prejudice (2005), which starred Keira Knightley as Lizzie Bennet and Matthew Macfadyen as Mr Darcy, took place at a number of locations in the area, the Peak District landscapes providing some of the film's spectacular backdrops and Chatsworth doing duty as Mr Darcy's home, Pemberley.
Burghley house, the largest and grandest house of the first Elizabethan age, has been home of the Cecil family for more than 400 years and was used in filming as the home of Lady Catherine de Bourg.

Da Vinci Code
For the Da Vinci Code, Burghley House was used for interior and some exterior scenes involving Castel Gandolfo while outbuildings were used for several other scenes.  Lincoln Cathederal also acted as stand in to Westminster Abbey during filming of the Tom Hanks spectacular.
Elizabeth: The Golden Age
Burghley came under the Hollywood spotlight again for the 2007 movie Elizabeth: The Golden Age, a historical thriller set in the middle years of her reign. Burghley portrays the home of Dr John Dee, Queen Elizabeth I personal astrologer and adviser, plus other London and Parisian street scenes.
Wolfman (2010)
Many of the dark and striking scenes from this soon to be released film starring Anthony Hopkins and Benicio Del Torro were filmed at Chatsworth House.  This historic family home was transformed into a dark and moody set for this nail-biting and dark mystery.
The Duchess, released in autumn 2008, tells the story of Georgiana, fifth Duchess of Devonshire and was shot during autumn 2007 at Kedleston Hall and Chatsworth – Georgiana's real-life home in the 1700s. The film yet again featured Keira Knightley in the title role and promises to be another box office hit, further establishing the Peak District & Derbyshire's reputation as a first class destination for film tourism.
