Burghley House is the largest and grandest House of the first Elizabethan Age.
It has been home to the Cecil family for over 400 years. Built and mostly designed
by William Cecil, Lord High Treasurer of England, between 1555 and 1587. At present
the house is occupied by Mr Simon and Lady Victoria Leatham, well known as one
of the experts on BBC Television's 'The Antiques Roadshow'. In the latest adaptation
of Pride and Prejudice, Burghley was used for the exterior and interior of Rosings,
the imposing home of Lady Catherine de Bourg, daunting dowager aunt of Darcy,
and patron of Mr Collins.
